Understanding How Pipe Relining Works

Drain and sewer lines are usually laid in the ground — for good reasons also. Over time, structures may be built or gardens laid on the surface of the ground in which the lines are laid. Laying these pipes in the ground makes them susceptible to damage or cracks by tree roots and other factors. It does not make for a pleasant phenomenon to homeowners when signs of a blockage in the lines start to emerge. This is because rectifying a blocked drain or sewer line could mean structures and gardens above the line may have to be destroyed. Pipe relining technique removes the need for this disruptive procedure for repairing drains or sewer pipes. But how does pipe relining work?

What is Pipe Relining and How Does it Work?

Pipe relining is a method whereby a newer, smaller-diameter pipe is fitted into an existing, larger-diameter one. This process makes it possible to repair or replace faulty pipes with so much ease. It is a very efficient way for dealing with damaged pipes and sewer lines. Pipe relining eliminates the need for excessive digging and highly costly bills. It can be used for pipes and systems measuring as little as four inches to as high as approximately five feet in diameter.

A video inspection is usually first carried out to assess the extent of damage to your old sewer pipes. If pipe relining is confirmed as required, a flexible tube or pipe liner coated with epoxy — or several of it — is commonly placed within the defective sewer line. The new pipe liner is then expanded with an inflating device so that the epoxy coat can firmly attach the new pipe liner to the inside of the old pipe. The resin is then allowed sometime to cure for the new pipe to bond well to the system. Hot water may be pumped through the new liner to enhance curing time.

Why Should You Consider Pipe Relining for Your Next Repair?

01.

Convenience

Pipe relining is way easier than old method of dealing with cracked or damaged drains or sewer pipes. The traditional method often involves destroying structures and doing serious digging. There is virtually no need for extensive digging when pipe relining is concerned.

02.

Time Saving

Another reason why you should consider pipe relining for your next repair project is that it saves you time. This is mainly because the need for long digging is eliminated. The process could even be completed in as little as 30 minutes in the right conditions.

03.

Less Costly

The fact that you do not need extensive digging and complete overhaul saves you money. You also need not worry much about costs of renovation since the technique is not as destructive as the traditional repair approach.

04.

New System

Pipe relining gives you the benefit of a new system. The process is similar to a complete overhaul of your drain or sewer system, but without considerable digging. The new pipes could do as well as a complete system replacement.

05.

Double Protection

Existing pipes are not destroyed with pipe relining. This then means that dual protection is in place to repel intrusion from roots of trees. Pipe relining is obviously a faster, stronger and more convenient way to approach repair of defective pipes. It saves you money as well.
